Mr Cogito Pauses As He Reads That U.S. Department Of Defense Is 'Funding' Stem-Cell Breast Cancer Research By Scientists In Toronto, London, Berkeley

"London researchers have been awarded a three-year, $150,000 research grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to probe a new theory on how to stop breast cancer.

Lawson Health Research Institute scientists will attempt to find a way of imaging the stem cells that are involved in the growth and spread of breast cancer.

"If we can image them, ultimately you can treat them as well," said Dr. Eva Turley of the London Regional Cancer Program, who is working with Dr. Mina Bissell at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif.

Current breast cancer treatment focuses on eradicating cancer cells that are dividing.

But research at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children found stem cells, which don't divide, are the source of the dividing cancer cells." ...

Cancer stem cells isolated from human breast cancers by University of Michigan scientists more than four years ago and before the 'investment' by the U.S. Department of Defense in its multi-year, multi-hundreds of billion dollars war in Iraq.
