Ukraine Government Criticizes Irrationality Of Commonwealth Of Independent States (CIS) Under Lukashenka's Influence; Threatens Considered Withdrawal
"Ukraine contemplating possibility of its withdrawal from CIS [which is headquartered in Minsk, Belarus]. As First Deputy Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko told a today news briefing, Ukraine is not satisfied with activities of the Commonwealth of Independent States and gains no concrete results of its work.
As he said, Ukraine annually contributes some one million USD to the CIS budget and the fact that the CIS funds are used irrationally doesn't suit it. According to him, Ukraine is a member of many international organizations, which bring Ukraine much more use. "We are analyzing the situation and thinking about our further actions", Ohryzko said, by way of answering a question on possibility of Ukraine's withdrawal from the CIS. As he added, there will be no hasty decisions in this matter."
