Breaking Ranks With Many Major American Orchestras, Nashville Symphony Orchestra Will Attempt To Nurture New American Symphonic Repertoire
"As we [at the Nashville Symphony Orchestra] begin our Inaugural 2006/07 Season there are many new offerings in addition to our new hall, Schermerhorn Symphony Center. One that we are quite excited about and hope will become a tradition is our American Encores program. On nearly all of the programs in our Classical subscription series, we will feature one work by an American composer that been performed either only once before – at its premiere – or rarely played since. We will perform it for a second time – the "encore!"
Some composers will be well-established figures, like Philip Glass, while others may be entirely new to you, like Stephen Dankner. Ultimately we are doing this to foster a wider appreciation of the wonderful, prolific and imaginative composing that is going on in America today. Look below to see the offerings for each Classical concert. Closer to the concert dates you can view program notes about the piece being performed online."
